ADA Amendments Act of 2008 Goes to House Floor on June 25, 2008
(June 24, 2008) The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is the nonprofit membership organization for the federally mandated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) Systems and the Client Assistance Programs (CAP) for individuals with disabilities. Through training and technical assistance, legal support, and legislative advocacy, NDRN works to create a society in which children and adults with all types of disabilities and their families are afforded equality of opportunity and are able to fully participate by exercising choice and self-determination.
There is a Protection and Advocacy and CAP program in every state and territory, as well as a Native American P&A. These programs work to protect the human, civil, and legal rights of individuals of all ages and with all types of disabilities. These programs recognize the critical role that the Americans with Disabilities Act was enacted to play in ensuring the rights of all people with disabilities.
The undersigned Protection and Advocacy and CAP programs believe that it is time to restore Congress’ original intent in passing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): to make this great nation’s promise of equality and freedom a reality for Americans with disabilities by protecting anyone who is treated less favorably because of a current, past, or perceived disability.
We urge you to support passage of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 without any amendments. This bill has been negotiated by the disability and the business community and has strong bipartisan support.
